I had good credit until I shared an apartment with someone who wouldn’t pay their half of rent/bills. In scrambling to cover their half, I neglected my own personal bills and the result was damaged credit. Most of the damage comes from unpaid student loan. Should I apply for a credit card to pay off the loan and then make sure I make payments on the credit card? Is this the best way?

I am in the process of enrolling for school. I am considering taking online courses, and using financial aid to pay for it. But my credit is ruined. However i’m pretty sure that it won’t matter for federal aid? is that true? I am moving from California to Florida soon, and I am really pressed for money. I was hoping to use the extra money from my pel grant to help me move home and get settled in. My efc is about 470, so I should get plenty of cash back. This will help me transition into student life. However, there is a local community college that costs about half of the online courses. Will I be able to cash in the extra money left over from the stafford loan? Or would i just get less money? because the online school is going to max out my student loan.
i expect approx 4k from the pel grant, but it would be nice to actually see some of the $ from the stafford loan to help with livin expenses.

I am an 18 year old college student. I have never had a job besides Work Study at my college. I have one minor student loan and a cell phone in my name. I am trying to get an auto loan for about $5,000. My mom will pay the car payment, but she is unable to get the loan personally. Does anyone have any valid suggestions?
