3 months ago, I started disputing/updating/fixing up my credit, and I’m finally done.

Here is where I stand with all CRAs after all the removals/updates:

- HSBC/Orchard Bank:
3 months old, good standing, always paid in full, always low utilization, $300 limit, balance stands at $43.

- Collection account with Comcast:
Opened in January of 08, last reported in August of 08, org. balance was $141, currently stands at $0, paid in full!

- Collection account with an apartment complex:
Opened in July of 07, last report in August of 08, org. balance was $615, currently stands at $0, paid in full!

- 5 inqueries on TU, 5 on EX, and 10 on EQ.

- FAKO scores (still didn’t buy FICO) are:
TU: 572, EX: 569, EQ: 615.

So, now what? What should my next step be? Apply for Capital One? First Premier? How about store cards? Which ones are easiest to get? Best Buy? Walmart? Target? or maybe Dell? How about gas cards like Shell or Exxon Mobile? Personal loans?

I don’t plan to buy a house for another two years, so mortgages are out of the question. I might buy a car, but that won’t be until next year. Co-signing with someone is also out of the question.

My goal is to get my score above 700 in the next 12 months. Where do I go from here?

I am extremely embarrassed asking this and never thought I would be in the position to have to file, but here goes. My wife and I have extremely high credit card debt not to mention car loans and personal loans. With the economy the way it is we don’t for-see the financial situation improving any time soon. I have been laid off for a year and there are no jobs in my area. We are at the limit. We’ve stayed current with every bill by using the credit card and hoping things would improve. We’re at the point where the card is maxxed and have to file. I will be giving my truck back to avoid that payment. My wife’s car is paid off and the only car we’ll have. Is there any way to file and keep the car? From what I understand the court can seize just about anything you own. Does anybody have any good ideas to make the process easier. I **** the fact we have to default on our loans and would like any comments from people who have been down this road. We will be filing chapter 7, chapter 13 is not an option.
