What happens if I marry someone with bad credit?

Emily S asked:

My boyfriend and I have discussed marriage but one of my biggest concerns is his credit. He is working towards improving it, but I know this will take years. I have excellent credit. If we get married and do NOT have any joint accounts, seperate car loans, home in my name, seperate credit cards, etc, will his credit score have any effect on mine? Also if he continues to damage his credit after getting married, will that effect my credit score?

Buying on Contract due to bad credit?

myboys asked:

hi, I have never had a home loan before and my husbnd and I have been looking around lately at homes for sale. I have found the house of my dreams but unfortunatly Im unable to get a loan of any type due to bad credit. The loan person at the bank said to try back in 6 months because we just paid off 2 credit cards that were in delinqent standing. I cant wait 6 months the house will for sure be gone by then! The realtor is also the owner and he offered if we couldnt get a loan to call him back and he would be willing to let me buy it on contract. What do you think? Is this a good idea? What should I look out for? He personally has never lived in the home, he flipped it, and now everything is brand new! I’m very excited to move forward with the contract option but should I? Please help!

Best way to earn credit?

P-chan asked:

I’m 21 and haven’t been able to establish ANY credit, I apply for credit cards and I’m denied due to my lack of credit.
My mum tells me that going to the credit union and taking out a small personal loan then paying it back after a couple months is the easiest/ fastest/ most efficient way to earn credit. Is there anything else I could do to help raise my credit?
I have no unpaid bills or anything that will hurt with my credit so there is no need to tell me anything like that.
Thanks!
