How can ppl afford to buy houses in sydney?

If you are a first home buyer and even if you have saved up a deposit of say 30K how on earth can you afford to buy a house for 400K in sydney? In a half decent suburb you won’t find a house under 400k. e.g rydalmere, parramatta, dundas, hornsby etc..I’m not even talking about suburbs like ryde, gladesville and anything more closer to the city. And even liverpool (which isn’t even that much cheaper say 350k for a house). By the way I’m getting my pricing info from domain.com.au
On a 300K loan the repayments are about 600 a week and that is min repayment over 30yrs. And on 400K it would be much more I just don’t understand how ppl are coping if you are on average salary of say 50K even with 2 ppl working and having kids it would be impossible with all the bills to buy a house? Am I just completely wrong here? Are my figures way of?
